School is starting in one month. Are you ready? I sure am!
I am looking forward to meeting all of the new students that are going to be part of the BEST class in 5th grade this year. I've seen the roster and there will be some faces that are familiar and a few that are new to me. Either way, I know that we will learn a lot about each other quickly.
My students can look forward to a lot of success this year.
In reading, we will talk about the challenges that people can face because they are new to a school or a different color than everyone else. We will even learn about how moviemakers create special effects!
Science will be filled with learning about the solar system, the important parts of our bodies, and why animals eat each other. (Yuck!)
In social studies, we will learn about how our country started and how it has changed in the more than 200 years since it was born.
In math, we will learn more about fractions, adding and subtracting really big numbers, negative numbers, graphs, and probability. I hope my students have practiced their multiplication facts because they will be really important in 5th grade, but if they are a little rusty then I'll be sure to help them out.
We are also going to learn lots of computer skills like emailing, typing in Word, and making Power Point presentations. As soon as possible, the students will even take over writing this blog!
The most important thing we will learn this year is how to be a responsible person. All year long I will focus on being the very BEST me I can be, and I will help my students be the VERY BEST people they can be. We will have the best behavior, the best grades, the best attitudes, the best manners, the best test scores, the best EVERYTHING!
It's going to be hard work, but we will have some fun along the way. I hope that none of my students feel nervous about 5th grade, but if they do, that's okay. We can take care of that soon!
I will make my students 5 promises:
1. I will push you hard EVERY day.
2. I will be your BIGGEST fan.
3. I will help you get up when you fall, but I'll make you try again.
4. I won't accept anything but your BEST.
5. I will always give you my BEST.
Welcome to our class, Ms. Burden's bunch for 2010-2011. Get ready to be SUCCESSFUL!!!!
